My Cup Runneth Over
Psalm 23:5 (KJV):
“Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.”
Life can throw some uncertain experiences our way. No one knew that better than David.
He experienced incredible struggles but always had a poetic way of testifying to God’s love and provision. And David articulated God’s faithfulness in the midst of trials and hardships with worship and truth.
Psalms 23:5 specifically offers comfort, strength, and hope, making it a powerful and personal source of encouragement in times of uncertainty.
In this verse the prepared table shows God provides our physical and spiritual nourishment.
David then speaks of the anointing of oil which symbolizes being refreshed and blessed by the out pouring of the Holy Spirit.
The cup, spoken of, is a reflection of one’s life filled with Gods abundance which results in one’s joy and gratitude for the blessings.
So, when you find yourself surrounded by hardship and the unknown, like David, will you choose to rest in God’s promises, even if that doesn’t mean the immediate removal of your circumstances?
Perhaps it would be good to spend some time with God, seeking his loving presence so your cup can runneth over.
