Be Still and Know
-Psalm 84:1-12 (KJV)
-“Be still, and know that I am God.” —Psalm 46:10 (KJV)
-“And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word… But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.” —Luke 10:39, 42 (KJV)
We just left Florida, and vacation has officially begun! It’s summertime—the season when many families (like us) carve out intentional time to get away, reconnect, and make up for the moments missed in the busyness of everyday life.
As we’ve been planning our family trip, there’s been a lot of excitement about leaving behind our normal routines and simply being—being free to come and go, to rest, and to spend time with the people we love.
But in the midst of all that planning, the Holy Spirit has quietly posed a question in my heart. And that is, “Do we plan with the same intention to spend time with God as we do with our family?”
After all, He is our Father. And yet, He longs to be with us - and more importantly, us with HIM! Sure, we spend time with Him in church and rushed morning prayers, but do we actually set-aside intentional, planned, personal, and undistracted time?
Do we realize that our pursuit of trips and vacations are motivated by thrill of sleeping in, slowing down and finding a renewal, of sorts.
But true renewal—of our hearts, minds, bodies, and spirits—only comes from undistracted and intentional TIME with the Lord. It’s in His presence that we are refreshed in ways nothing else can offer.
Mary understood this….much at the despise of her sister, Martha. Yet, she pursued time with her Lord.
As we take this summer to visit family and enjoy some time away, the Lord is softening my heart. He’s gently reminding me that only He can sustain my soul.
In this season, He’s teaching me:
Being still. Being quiet. Being present.
Being with Him.
May we all strive to prioritize abiding in the Lord’s presence.
