Fasting…

Psalms 34:8

I’ve done my fair share of fasting. At times I’ve fasted from food. Other times I’ve hasted from “things”.

Today I was convicted and I may be stepping on toes by sharing my conviction- however that is not my intention.

Here it is- I think we’ve watered down (no pun intended) the true call of fasting. We often tend to insert our own understanding and make fasting more appealing or easy by inserting our own definitions of what we should fast from.

I think we’ve missed the true meaning of what we are to fast.

Fasting requires sacrifice and it often involves pain.

So our family is setting aside two days a week to fast - not from TV or coffee or our phones….but from food.

I believe this is the way a fast should be - a physical denial of the flesh so that our soul can reach those deeper places of strength and power only given by God.

Our desire in this act of obedience is to purify our hearts, minds, bodies and spirits so that we can renew our focus in God and defeat spiritual strongholds.

What would happen if all of us truly got uncomfortable in our flesh for a day and got serious about fasting?

Can you imagine the renewal that would come from denying self and filing ourself with heavenly nourishment? And what about the spiritual authority that would be restored to the kingdom of God?!

I’m anticipating great breakthroughs and invite you to journey along with us so you, too, can experience the same!
