Did You See That?
Ephesians 5:15-17
Have you ever driven a path so much that you don’t remember going through certain areas? Like you have to think twice if you stop at the stop sign?
Sometimes things in life can be like this….we get stuck in a monotonous routine and before we know it, we are operating on autopilot.
Our autopilot gets a break, though, when we go to new places and experience new things. In those situations, our senses are so alert, we notice everything!
This was none too applicable as we drove through the rural parts of Alabama. I noticed everything….even the name of my favorite beverage: Coffee County. Had this been a regular route, I would have probably missed that sign.
I wonder how many details are we not seeing in life’s journey because we’re so comfortable with our normal routine. I wonder what would happen if we allowed ourselves to travel the road less traveled.
What if we willingly and joyfully allowed God to take us into the unfamiliar places, so we can be more aware of what He wants us to do and see.
Maybe we’d be surprised at our heightened awareness of things around us. Maybe we’d be able to see God working more specifically in our life. Maybe we’d be more sensitive to those who need encouragement. Maybe we’d have the awareness God wants us to have so we don’t miss things.
Traveling isn’t nearly as fun as the destination. But since we have not yet “arrived”, perhaps we should learn to enjoy the journey….even the ones less familiar,so we can make the most of every opportunity God has for us.
