Deafening Silence

We spent the night at a campground in Arlington, Ky. To say it was remote is an understatement. We were located at the end of a road that turned into clay and mud. We were the ONLY ones there. Not even the host was present. We had no cell signal. How our GPS even got us there is a mystery. (And getting back in the highway was ONLY by the hand of God guiding us).

In the remote middle of nowhere-with no distractions, the silence was deafening. Although it took a while to unwind and the area bit unsettling, the reset was welcome.

It was necessary so I could be present - in my words and actions. I needed to be stripped of everything and let go of my agenda so I could enjoy the moments…with my family and with God.

Even with our best efforts, seldom are we still…alone…disconnected from life.

Although uncomfortable, the alone times can be the most purifying and restorative.

Today- May God lead us into a place where we can do just that- disconnect. May we embrace the silence and eagerly anticipate the restoration that awaits.

May those times draw us closer to our Creator God so we can listen and understand our purpose and calling.

May time spent isolated renew our faith and restore our dependence on God. May it allow us to be more authentic in our walk and our worship!

Through these moments, in the still, quiet and remote location of His holy throne room, may we refuse the lure of this world and only embrace the treasures God has for us.

So for deeper application with the posted verse: can you willingly refuse the comforts of what holds you in slavery, and forgo the pleasures of a season, so that you’re free to experience the rewards of our Father?
